NASHUA –Jennifer Horn, Republican candidate for Congress, released the following statement on the economic bailout:
Jennifer Horn: “If I thought a bailout was the right answer, I would probably vote for this bill. Sen. Gregg showed exceptional leadership in negotiating this plan. It also shows that Republicans and Democrats can actually work together. There are things about this bill that I support: removing the golden parachutes; greater oversight; and establishing a new federal insurance program that would protect firms against loss from troubled assets.
However, I oppose a bailout. We don’t need more big government programs to the tune of $700 billion of taxpayer’s money. Government is already too big and has proven to be irresponsible with our money.
Secondly, Government intervention always has unintended consequences. When the government tries to manipulate the free market, its costs us money and it costs us jobs.
In Washington, the conversation has only been about how to spend $700 Billion of taxpayer money. It’s the wrong answer to the problem. We need to consider other options that protect the integrity of the free market and protect the American taxpayer from more debt and higher taxes.
Also we can’t lose sight of how we got into this situation. This problem has been brewing for years and Congress has failed to act. While sitting on the Financial Services Committee, Paul Hodes took tens of thousand of dollars from the very institutions that his committee is responsible to oversee. It’s no wonder Paul looked the other way instead of protecting New Hampshire families. We need ethics reform that will eliminate these conflicts of interest so voters can be assured that Congress will put America’s interests before the special interests.”
