First-time Republican candidate Jennifer Horn, of Nashua, has gotten out of the financial gate pretty well in her 2nd Congressional District bid.
By the Federal Election Commission deadline Tuesday, Horn will have raised between $72,000 and $75,000.
"We feel very good about this kind of start from someone who didn't get into this race that long ago,'' campaign manager Zack Condry said.
Totals from the other three Republican candidates weren't available. Republican candidate James Steiner, of Concord, was unavailable for comment Friday.
State Sen. Robert Clegg, R-Hudson, has already indicated he has focused more on meeting with voters and getting well-versed on the issues than on raising money in this early stage. He has loaned the campaign $100,000.
GOP candidate Grant Bosse, a former congressional aide, reportedly has collected about $10,000 in donations.
Whoever is this party's nominee will have their work cut out matching first-term Democrat Paul Hodes, who raised $2.1 million in his 2006 race and at year's end, had more than $1 million in the bank.
The best working estimate of a nest egg the winning challenger will need to raise by the September primary would be at least $500,000.
