Horn calls Hodes a Hypocrite
Jennifer Horn, a Republican candidate for the 2nd District congressional seat, criticized Hodes last week for his opposition to the war in Iraq.
In a release issued Tuesday, Horn mentioned Hodes' appearance at a welcoming ceremony on April 19 for soldiers from the New Hampshire National Guard's 34th Rear Area Operations Center.
What Hodes didn't mention in his speech, Horn's campaign said, is that he wants to cut troop funding and is discounting the recommendations of the soldiers' commanding officer, General David Petraeus.
"I believe that our generals on the ground are in the best position to determine the needs of the military," Horn said. "Politicians in Washington are never the right people to make military decisions. Too often they engage in political theater that does nothing more than damage morale and potentially put American lives at risk."
She went on to call Hodes' support of the troops on April 19 "a sham. ... He should put his money where his mouth is and support our troops by voting to provide them with everything they need to accomplish the mission in Iraq."
Horn, a former Nashua newspaper columnist and radio host, is running against fellow Republicans Grant Bosse, state Sen. Bob Clegg of Hudson and Jim Steiner of Concord for a chance to face Hodes in the general election.
