  • OP-ED: This Congress has betrayed the American people

    02/16/2009

The ill-named American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is a complete and total rejection of the democratic ideals of our founding fathers and a betrayal of the President's promise to bring genuine tax relief to the majority of American taxpayers and work across the aisle on the most important issues of the day. At 789 billion dollars, plus interest on repayment, it is a spending package that will ultimately cost the people of America well in excess of a trillion dollars. 789 billion dollars is nine zeros and approximately 17.5% of our GDP! According to one evaluation of the bill, if the temporary programs become permanent programs " an outcome that we all know is possible " the total value of this spending package will exceed three trillion dollars. At every level of government we have been betrayed by our elected representatives. Representative Paul Hodes rejected the Wall St bailout because, in his words, it did not protect the taxpayers "enough."

    11/02/2008

NASHUA TELEGRAPH - Congressman Paul Hodes did nothing to ward off this disaster despite Senator Sununu's wise appeal for reform before the train wreck. And it is a big reason why Granite Staters ought to elect Jennifer Horn and Jeb Bradley to Congress this year.

  • GOP's Horn faults Hodes on donations

    10/10/2008

NASHUA TELEGRAPH - Two years ago, Democratic congressional candidate Paul Hodes attacked Republican U.S. Rep. Charles Bass for taking six-figure campaign donations from big energy and big business while sitting on the House Commerce Committee that regulates both. Republican challenger Jennifer Horn, of Nashua, tried to turn the tables Thursday, accusing Hodes, the first-term congressman, of "looking the other way'' on financial regulation while taking $141,448 from banking, insurance and real estate entities as a member of the House Financial Services Committee.

    09/06/2008

Horn GOP best bet in 2nd District race In any other election year, a congressional candidate whose primary credentials consist of raising a family, writing a newspaper column and hosting a radio talk show would be the dark horse. But not this year. In any other year, a longtime state senator, a seasoned political operative or a former Green Beret turned lawyer would seem to have the advantage. But not this year. Not in a year when a little-known hockey mom turned governor of Alaska has captured the attention of the nation as the GOP vice-presidential nominee. Not in a year when the party of Lincoln is hoping to recast itself as the party of outsiders, the party of change, the party of mavericks. They say timing is everything, and former Telegraph columnist Jennifer Horn, of Nashua, could not have better timed her decision to run for Congress in the state's 2nd Congressional District. The other candidates on the Republican primary ballot Tuesday may have resumes that more closely match the traditional assumptions about qualifications, but Horn's candidacy is perfectly suited to the times and the mood of the nation. She is a fresh face with an engaging personality and an almost messianic zeal for the core principles of the GOP on both fiscal and social issues. Every successful salesman knows that selling is an exchange of positive energy, and Horn has plenty to go around as she attempts to sell herself to voters. She energizes her supporters in a way that her opponents cannot match, and she would be the most effective of the four in taking on incumbent Democrat Paul Hodes.

  • Concord Monitor Letter to the Editor

    09/01/2008

Two years ago when Paul Hodes was running for Congress he promised to take his backbone with him to Washington. Well, he has kept his promise, sort of. With a voting record of supporting Nancy Pelosi's radical agenda 98 percent of the time, Hodes may have taken his backbone to Washington but he has failed to unpack it upon arrival. All the Republicans running in the primary to unseat Hodes are eminently qualified to serve the voters of the 2nd District; however, there is one candidate who stands out as a breath of political fresh air, Jennifer Horn. Horn's "Move America Forward" 10-point agenda would end Congress's failure to address energy independence, national security and the American economy. Five of her agenda items, not necessarily in order of priority, are making America energy independent, winning the war on terror, returning integrity to government, lowering health insurance costs and fighting for veterans. Electing Horn to Congress means there would be one less congressman who is owned outright by special interest groups. ROBERT C. WASHBURN Concord

  • FRED BARNES ARTICLE ON JENNIFER HORN IN THE WEEKLY STANDARD

    08/20/2008

PRIMARY ELECTIONS AMONG challengers for a House seat held by the other party aren't normally of great political interest. But the race for the Republican nomination in a New Hampshire district is an exception. The reason: Jennifer Horn, a conservative talk radio host, is running. She's the first member of the talk radio tribe, so far as I know, to give up her radio perch to run for Congress.

  • UNION LEADER ENDORSES JENNIFER HORN!

    08/14/2008

Horn in the 2nd: A new Republican voice There are several strong candidates running for the Republican nomination for Congress in New Hampshire's 2nd District. The strongest of the lot is Nashua's Jennifer Horn. We cannot recall a novice candidate so clearly ready to step into the job of representing New Hampshire in Congress. Horn, a former newspaper columnist and radio talk show host, understands the issues of the day very well. And she comes down on the right side of them, too. We found her views to be well-reasoned and articulate. She understands the need to reduce spending and shrink the size of government, and not just around the edges. She is a strong advocate of tackling the runaway entitlement spending that leads to high taxes and slowed economic growth. On energy policy, she proposes that government get out of the way and let the market solve the supply problem, which is a wise policy. She supports more nuclear power and domestic oil production as well as making it easier for companies to pursue alternative energy sources. She is adamant that the government must control our borders and win the War on Terror, including its primary front in Iraq. And she supports term limits, which is the best reform of Congress we could have.

  • CONCORD MONITOR: Horn Stresses Family Ties in Run Political Observers Praise House Hopeful

    07/26/2008

Jennifer Horn meandered through Concord's downtown Market Days late last week, stopping at booths and introducing herself. Dressed in a black top and spotless white Capri pants, Horn extended her hand to one woman who smiled and begged off. "I'm covered in ketchup," the woman said. "I have five kids," Horn said, returning the smile. "I'm frequently covered in ketchup." Horn, 44, of Nashua, is one of five Republicans vying for a chance to unseat Democrat Paul Hodes in the state's 2nd Congressional District, which includes Concord. She has never run for public office and admits she wasn't always political. But she has raised a family - a point she brings up often. "My political education has probably come through the activity of being a parent, being a mother," said Horn, who has four teenage sons and a stepdaughter. "There's nothing that connects you more surely to what's happening in the world than being responsible for the life of another person." Although Horn is new to campaigning, she's so far shown a savvy that belies what you'd expect from a first-timer. She's hired experienced staffers, launched a professional website and been willing to attack her opponents - and hit back when she's attacked. (A recent press release rebutting a rival's claim that she misused campaign money was titled, "Grant 'Make Up the Facts' Bosse Strikes Again.") "She's someone who's come out of nowhere politically . . . who's running for office and showing political acumen that most first-time candidates would dream of," said Wayne Lesperance, an associate professor of political science at New England College and political observer. "She's holding her own."
